Omicron BA.5 accelerates the spread of the epidemic! Los Angeles County may reimpose a mask ban, with more than half the nation at high risk.

The rate of transmission of the Novel coronavirus variant omicronxin subtype BA.5 has increased. In the United States, the cumulative number of confirmed cases is now close to 90 million. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than half of the U.S. population resides in “high-risk” areas for transmission.

Over fifty percent of the population is at high risk.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the national epidemic rapidly worsened in the week ending July 16 compared to the previous week.

The CDC now classifies 1,143 counties as high-risk for COVID-19, a 71 percent increase from the previous week that places more than half of the U.S. population at risk.

Us: Hospital pressure spikes Los Angeles County may restart mask orders

In Los Angeles County, a high-risk area, the local Public Health Department has reported an average of more than 6,400 confirmed cases per day, an increasing number of hospitalizations and deaths, and weekly deaths from novel coronavirus infections that were three times higher in the first two weeks of July than in June alone. The new COVID-19 outbreak has put pressure on numerous local hospitals.

Wade, an intensive care physician at a Los Angeles hospital, said: In the past few days, we’ve had to arrange COVID – 19 patients in the emergency room for the first 12 to 24 hours, until we have an empty bed. If this situation continues for a week or two, we’ll have to recover before implementing a medical resources rationing scheme.

Michael Ferrer, the county’s director of public health, warned that if the situation persists, Los Angeles County will resume mandatory indoor mask enforcement on July 29 and will not relax the ban until the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention downgrade the county to a “moderate risk” zone.

Us: The actual number of confirmed cases could be significantly greater than official estimates.

As transmission of the Novel Coronavirus variant ba.5 accelerates, the CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION (CDC) reports that since July, each day in the United States has seen more than 100,000 new confirmed cases. Shafir, associate professor at the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles, stated that the actual number of confirmed cases is likely to be much higher than what is currently reported by U.S. authorities.

According to the US media, the rapid spread of the new subtype BA.5 has posed significant challenges to epidemic prevention and control. However, current US prevention and control measures remain relatively lax, and the epidemic prevention situation is concerning.
Professor of virology at the University of Hong Kong Jin Dong-yan stated that N95 respirators provide better protection than surgical masks during major COVID-19 outbreaks, but may not be cost-effective in areas with low COVID-19 risk.

Jin stated, “In a city devoid of cases, the N95 mask mandate would be painful and inconvenient.”

As a health care worker I found this article very helpful and one of the best descriptions I’ve been given so far. Well done.

Thanks for this video. I use N99 (FFP3) masks. The instructions write those masks filter viruses and says the N95 (FFP2) filters no viruses but only bacteria. Please can you make a video about this difference and maybe the explanation how that works? Would be great!
