Experts are warning that the number of new cases in the United States could reach one million in a single day

With Memorial Day just around the corner, the coronavirus outbreak in the United States is on the rebound, with another 100,000 new cases reported in a single day. Health officials and experts are warning that the United States could see another million new cases diagnosed in a single day.
Citing the Washington Post, the report said us health officials said the current 100,000 new cases a day were almost certainly underreported because the results of widely used home screening tests are often not reported to health agencies. Officials also warned that if Congress does not quickly appropriate billions of dollars for new antiviral drugs, vaccines and screening tools, it could run out of ammunition to fight a resurgence in the coming months.
According to The report, Director of the CENTERS for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The seven-day average daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States rebounded to nearly 100,000, up 26% from the previous week and three times that of a month ago. The hospitalization rate also increased by 19%, with about 3,000 people admitted to hospitals every day.
Officials and experts warned that the virus could once again see a million cases diagnosed in a single day in the fall or even winter due to the prevalence of the omicron variant subtype, the report said. If more vaccines, antiviral drugs, screening kits and better-quality masks are not available, deaths will soar.
The rate of infection in the United States is higher than in many other developed countries, the report said, because of social inequality, political differences, the occasional collapse of public health systems and a frequently uncoordinated policy response. The United States has experienced five waves of outbreaks since the beginning of 2020. Even now, there are still more than 300 COVID-19 deaths a day across the COUNTRY.
